The Refuge du Col de la Vanoise (2517m) is set on the mountain pass which allows to pass from the Tarentaise to the Maurienne. It is the oldest refuge of the massif. It belongs to the French Alpine Club. It is located on the commune of Pralognan-la-Vanoise. Built in 1902, it was first called "" Refuge Felix Faure "" in the honor of the former President of the French Republic who crossed the pass in 1897 during military operations.
Incontrovertible place on the Tour of the Vanoise Glaciers, the Col de la Vanoise, crossed by the famous GR55, is also the most visited site of the massif, quite rightly. The majestic glaciers of the Grande Casse which reflect in the lakes offer an exceptional sight. Marmots, ibexes, chamois, grouses, hermines… invest the ground.
